Makgadikgadi Adventure Camp is situated at Thabatshukudu on the northern side of the veterinary cordon fence. The site was found to be most suitable as three busy roads used mostly by 4×4 self-drive tourists to Nxai, chobe and Delta, flamingo breeding sites converge at the gate. There is local traffic as well as the gate is the only official passage for people to cattle post on both side of the fence. The camp is also only 19kms from the famous Kubu Island, 87kms from Gweta, 100kms from Nata, 90kms from Letlhakane, this positions the camp in the center of the famous Makgadikgadi pans.
The camp is intended to provide overnight camping facilities for in-transit travelers and tourist who visit Kubu Island and also would like to experience the adventures and wilderness of the magnificent Makgadidkgadi pans. An adventure enthusiast can wonder around the pans and Kubu Island, flamingo breeding sites, the historic kraals and other sites during the day and retire to Makgadidkgadi Adventure camp for comfortable and convenient camping where all essential facilities are available.
These magnificent pans are remnants of once a super lake which according to experts, dried some millions of years ago due to climatic changes, earth movements and shifts leaving crystalline salts glittering on the pans surface. The pans cover an area of approximately 80 000 square kilometers. Makgadikgadi pans are a place of incredible beauty, it poses a challenge for many creatures to survive there; and yet paradoxically, when wet during October to March, it is a remarkably productive area. Algae and planktons amerge from drought resistant pores and eggs that can survive for decades in the parched earth. Within days of rain, they turn the warm shallow water into a rich soup on which the flamingos and many other creatures survive.
